Welcome To
Duran Duran Interview and Reviews Page
April 3, 2005 Mohegan Sun Arena I’ve always
been a fan of Duran Duran and I’ve seen them in concert numerous times. I even saw them
perform once in The Wolf Den. I met the
them back in 1999, and at that time there were only two original members,
Simon LeBon (lead singer and the bands alter ego) and Nick Rhodes (a keyboard player who I found to
be very sweet). For
tonight’s show, Duran Duran was
whole once again! Reunited in 2003, with founding
members Andy Taylor, Roger Taylor, and John Taylor they cut an album together after 21 years entitled
“Astronaut”. Although three of the member sport the name “Taylor” you, none
of them are brothers. The evening
started off with a new song called “Sunrise” from their new CD, and then on to a classic
everyone knew, “Hungry Like The Wolf.” The stage was set me to promote their new
CD - outer space. There were
items for sale such as the ‘astronaut pen’ (which was
originally designed so that astronauts could write in black ink in space and
later found extremely useful for people working in areas that do not have a
flat surfaces to write on) for $45.00. Their sound
has seemed to take a turn towards the “Trans” side, the new music that is. All seemed
to enjoy it, mainly middle age youths remembering the good ole’ days when drinking
beer in your car was still cool. In my
opinion, Simon’s voice was impeccable. Perhaps even better than when they were still
and young having fun in the good ole’ days too, (if you know what I mean). Before I
knew it, they played my favorite song - “Ordinary Word” which made me long for
yesterday too. Embraced by my husband Bill, I silently cried inside, it was
that good! At the end
of the evening Simon LeBon, AKA ‘I Love Me’ began introducing the band. He then
walked into the audience, approaching what you’d think to be a young fan to introduce
him. He had to whisper his name to her, she didn’t know it. It was quite humorous. A
word of advice, know who you’re going to see. It was now time for the encore.
“Girls On Film” and “Rio.” Very traditional for Duran Duran, showing woman strutting
their stuff down the catwalk wearing high fashion. All were on their feet
dancing away. SET LIST Sunrise
