Welcome To
Kenny Wayne Shepherd Review Page
Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his
group exploded on the scene in the mid-'90s and garnered huge amounts of
radio airplay on commercial radio, which historically has not been a solid
home for blues and blues-rock music, with the exception of Stevie Ray
Vaughan in the mid-'80s. Shepherd was born June 12,
1977, in Shreveport, LA. The Shreveport native began playing at age seven,
figuring out Muddy Waters
licks from his father's record collection (he has never taken a formal
lesson). At age 13, he was invited onstage by New Orleans bluesman Brian Lee
and held his own for several hours; thus proving himself, he decided on music
as a career. He formed his own band, The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band with now
singer Noah Hunt. Kenny was never one to sing
vocals till this CD; “The Place Your In” came out. Let me tell you, he should
have done this some time ago. Although one does not realize how complicated
it is to play and sing at the same time. I must say, he’s mastered it! Along
with writing his own music and liner notes which I read to find out this
young man has a lot of love in his heart for his family which you don’t hear
of much today. I new there was something special about him the first time I
heard his music on the radio sometime ago, scrambling to find out who this
was. I than became a fan and advocate for him Okay, let’s talk about this
brilliant CD. Since I got it, it has remained in my player for about three
weeks now. It’s been along time since I have actually acquired a CD that I
like every single song! Starting with “Alive” which I would say is about
being with someone special and how good they make you feel about yourself “Be
Mine” which sounds a lot like Hendrix, Stevie Ray and Lenny Kravitz, in my
opinion. Next “Spank” not to be taken as one were getting spanked on the ass
but in context of getting screwed over. This song, he is accompanied by Kid
Rock. Really love the lyrics….Some do
want to prove that there really just a chosen few…..So to the test of fate,
speculate that it can never happen to you…I’ve been high, at least tried,
Iearned to sleep with an open eye….you crossed that line, better take the
time to kiss your ass goodbye! There is a message here, figure it out for
yourself. “Ain’t Selling Out” musically sounds a lot like Foghats rendition
of “I Just Wanna Make Love To you” which I believe came out originally by
Muddy Waters. Next “Believe” with Noah hunt on vocals and acoustic guitar.
“Place Your In” has a real bluesy feel and last but not least, my favorite
“Hey, What Do You Say” this song really struck a cord to my heart in the
place I feel I’m at in my life right now. Anyhow, this CD is a must for anyone who likes versatility
to their blues because every song is different melodically. Its rock,
country, hip-hop and Kenny Wayne ain’t never gonna stop! Kelly Roadway Hajduk ***** Checkout the CD by
