Patty Smyth with Scandal

Mohegan Sun

July 30th 2007

Days of old and new is what was brought to mind when I saw Patty Smyth and Scandal. The band played to perfections and Patty’s voice as great as the first time I heard here back in 1984 with the hit song “Warrior” which they played that evening prompting the audience by slamming her water bottle on to the stage. Patty looked fantastic and I was amazed at the fact she had six children and looked so damn good!

The night was young and the show was just getting underway. They opened with “Line on You”, “Heartache”, and “White Bird.” The audience was very responsive…it’s been awhile. It’s not everyday you get to see Scandal. The evening went on with more hits and more applause, even some giving a standing ovation. Patty not being shy with her fans, made her way through the crowd while singing “Beat of a Heart” and even taking a look at the band remarking on how good they looked on stage.

Next, heartfelt songs that wouldn’t make for the best wedding songs she proclaims. It brought so much emotion, it brought a tear to Patty’s eye. She explained “ these songs were written during a time I  was very depressed” and went on to say how a song can come from a dried rose that’s been there for many years that suddenly has fallen out of a book. That’s when Patty performed her single that was actually a duet with Don Henley “Love Ain’t Enough” and “No Mistakes.” She then told the audience “don’t look back, don’t ever look back!”

The night flew by and before you knew it, the evening was coming to an end to the most fitting song “Goodbye.” Patty and the band came back out to do two more songs and onto a meet and greet signing autographs and taking pictures. It was a great evening for all!
