5th 2006 Uncasville,
CT
It wasn’t your typical
Wednesday night here in Uncasville, CT (Yes Sammy Uncasville, CT that’s where
you were). The Redrocker was unsure where the hell he was at and commented
that when he was on the plane over CT he didn’t see very many house’s which
kind of baffled him. I guess
little ole’ CT doesn’t resemble California, although we have plenty of
Redheads to be found here, bringing us all out on a Wednesday night at that. The Arena was packed and the crowd was ready.
There was an opening video that lasted about ten minutes. Round one, which
consisted of Sammy and the Wabos taking the stage. David Lauser on drums, Vic
Johnson on guitar, Mona on bass guitar and the one and only Sammy Hagar, lead
vocals and guitar. The stage setting was Cabo style, palm trees,
grass umbrellas, tiki bar with plenty of Cabo Wabo (Sammy’s own brand name
tequila that resembles the Pacific Ocean and is oh so smooth). I actually got
a taste sharing a drink handed out by Sammy with another Redhead who
resembled Sammy. The backdrop was florescent, enhanced with black-lights.
Let’s not forget the rows of Redheads that were fortunate enough to watch the
show on stage who were parting Sammy style. Gracing the stage as well were
beautiful women in itty bitty bikinis serving Margaritas throughout the show.
Hagar comments to one particular waitress “where’s your tan?” He told her she
needed to go to Cabo and went on to say people in Cabo either have tan lines
or they don’t if you get what I mean and assumed she sun bathed in the nude
perhaps in her living room on the couch instead. I have to say this man has a wonderful
personality. He was grinning ear to ear throughout the whole show, swearing
and breaking the casino’s up tight rules, dressed casual in capri’s and
tee’s. His vocals and guitar
were perfect no matter how drunk he claimed he was getting. You’ve just got to love him. The first song was my favorite, Mas Tequila, a
big crowd pleaser brought
everyone and their grandmother to their feet in my section. Showering all
with Margaritas, which is alcohol abuse where I come from. I found myself actually sniffing the
stuff on my arm as if at a wine tasting party. Then of course, this I’ve seen
at a lot of past shows, a giant piñata in the shape of a Cabo Wabo tequila bottle,
lowered from the rafters to the stage. Sammy struck it with a guitar to
reveal confetti and a giant Agave Worm. There was a short intermission, Then came
Sammy and other half Michael Anthony, original bass player from Van Halen. I
do believe this is what the crowd was waiting for. The crowd really came to
life! Hagar and Anthony both smiled from ear to ear like two old army
buddies, joined at the hip and enjoying every minute of being on stage
together. They make a great team. Much better than David Lee Roth with ego
which in my opinion destroyed the original Van Halen. If one remembers, Sammy
toured with David Lee Roth and to put it nicely, it didn’t work and the rest
of the tour was canceled. Other songs included: Bob Dylan’s, Every Day
woman, There’s Only One Way To Rock, Why Can’t This Be Love, Can’t Drive
Fifty- Five, Little White Lies, Finish What Ya Started, Running With the
Devil, Poundcake, Eddie Cochran’s, Summer Time Blues, Shaka Dobie, Girl Gets
Around, Rock Candy, Sam I Am, I love This Bar, Top Of The World and to finish
the evening with Fight for Your Right, by the Beastie Boys To sum this show up - it was like going to a
BIG party, with top notch Cabo Wabo, served by bathing beauties, with a great
bunch of fans who have united as one community called Redheads, with talented
Hagar, The Wabos and other half, Michael Anthony all having a good time with
great music. What more could you ask for? I have to give a big “thank
you” to Sammy Hagar for being himself and making ticket prices affordable in
the trying times we all live in. Most of all thanks for a break from reality,
you really know how to treat your fans. Hope to see you next year. Keep your eye out for Sammy
Hagar’s latest CD coming out July 25th, we’ve got it, read the
